The new re-tweet and repost darling of the “UPT” crowd is Rohan Perry. Yeah! We said so. Cool and calculating, Rohan seems to have edged out Dutty Berry in the Jamaican blogsphere. His short Instagram parodies are now EVERYWHERE! One minute he is making fun of couples in love and the next he is trashing people falling asleep on the bus. We did some research and here is how Rohan matched up against Berry as an InstaCelebrity.
1. Instagram Followers.
He has more than Berry (@duttyberryshow). In 2 years Berry has amassed 17,000 followers and posted over 1500 times while Perry (@quiteperry) has climbed to 20,000 followers with less than 200 posts. Perry wins this round.
2. Identical Names.
Clearly, someone stole someone’s name idea. While Perry and Berry are the actual last names of these two, Berry wins this round since his YouTube videos have been around long before Perry joined Instagram or YouTube.
3. Claim to Fame.
Perry wins this. Why? Simply because he went quickly from being a socialite to a successful social media personality. Berry, on the other hand,
was on Youtube for years before Tessanne Chin’s appearance on The Voice. That’s when his channel got wide notice. Perry has managed to trump Berry without help from a local celebrity.
4. In With The “Right” Crowd.
Let’s just say this one is a tie since they run in similar-ish social circles. One was in the Youth View Awards Hype Crew and is friends with socialites, musicians and designers, and the other got the social stamp of approval from HER (you know exactly who we mean) and was even one of
her Food Awards Judges.
5. Relevance of Content.
Hard to judge, but let’s all admit that Perry’s Vine-esque Instagram videos trump Berry’s YouTube videos in relevance. Berry does skits about life in Jamaica and social commentary while Perry’s videos appeal to audiences outside of Jamaica. Perry takes this round for sheer mass appeal.
Well by our count Perry seems to be the winner, albeit the whole name thing. But be reminded that popularity on Instagram is fleeting. So we will see if he can maintain momentum. If you disagree with our choice, tell us why.
