It can be hard to monitor everything that happens in Jamaica in a week as most positive news stories are often overshadowed by stories of crime and violence. Here are 5 positive things that happened in the news that you probably didn’t event notice.
- The government announced that they intend to create nearly 6000 housing units by 2017. The units will be made available to low and middle income earners.
- Principal of the Holy Family Primary School in Kingston is reporting a 10% increase on the literacy rate at the school. He credits this increase parental support as well as the introduction of technology as a teaching aid.
- The Office of the Children’s Registry (OCR) has reported a 10% decrease in the number of reported missing children in 2014.
- Over 400 jobs will be available when the Melia Hotel Group reopens the former Grand Lido Braco. The hotel's general manager Dimitris Kosvogiannis has stated that all the new employees will be Jamaican.
- 17-year- old Violinist and Kingston College student, Jordon Crawford is one of three persons granted a full scholarship to the United World College (UWC), Robert Bosch campus, in Freiburg, Germany. Crawford, will be pursuing a two-year international baccalaureate.
