Online game promotes new show on MTV

To promote its new series The Hard Times of RJ Berger MTV has created a ‘casual game’ called The Chain of Thought.

The game focuses on the idea that it’s “difficult to talk to one’s crush,” according to Mashable. Players get points and level up by completing “conversation challenges” where objects must be connected in the correct order to produce a sentence that gets a positive response from the crush character.

The game introduces new users to the show about an unpopular 15-year-old boy who deals with a sudden influx of newfound popularity at school and wants to figure out how to talk to his object of affection, Jenny.

Players must drag and connect items in RJ’s brain that will generate a response to the person he’s communicating with. Connecting the items earns points, and the longer the connection is between items the more points the player gets. The fun part is actually linking the items as they move around very fast in his brain.

Lie most games, of course, there are obstacles to achieving your goal. So, for example there are “bad icons like XXX” that should be avoided to prevent RJ from saying something wrong and keep your score up.

It’s engaging and also fun to watch the conversation take place. Chain of Thought is yet another indication that games are a popular way to bring people online.
