Kingston On The Edge is back! The 4th annual urban arts festival has become a fixture on Kingston’s social calendar; and with good reason. The festival highlights the talents of some of Jamaica’s most gifted minds and makes an effort to draw attention to emerging artists alongside those who are more established. For one week every year creative events occur simultaneously at different venues all over the city, transforming Kingston into a showcase of the newest and edgiest on the urban art scene.

This year is no exception as the week’s line-up promises to be nothing short of fantastic. Running from July 18 to 26 the festival captures fine art, music, dancing, theatre, and just about everything in between. Just the First weekend on its own displays a wide cross section of Jamaica’s Creative Arts scene.

Opening night (Friday June 18) at Redbones Blues Cafe will set things off with live music by Raging Fyah and Moahrock, a Fashion presentation by City Life, and the musical styling of DJ Afifa Aza. Twenty-one different Artists will exhibit sculpture, painting, and the undefined medium that is art. It will be a sensual buffet of texture, colour, sound, and energy.

As the weekend progresses be sure to check out workshops in all things creative at the Edna Manley Schools on Saturday morning, while Saturday afternoon will showcase photography at the Wijicoon Gallery on Red Hills Road.

Sunday sees a steady hum of activity as you can hop from venue to venue. View Cultural exhibitions at the Institute of Jamaica, or have a look at Haitian Art at Roktowa on Pechon Street. Be sure not to miss the Young Talent Exhibition at the National Gallery in the Early Afternoon. Not to be outdone is the Evening Studio 174 Exhibit “Art is Healing” in the early afternoon at 174 Harbour Street. Later on you can let your mind wander at the Village cafe as Seh Sup’m poetry is the main feature Sunday night.

Ladies and Gents, that is only the beginning of the festivities, remember this goes on all week with more new exhibits and events until the 26th of June.
