Smartphones are opening a new world of opportunities for business. Mobile apps easily connect consumers with their wants and needs and help drive revenues in many businesses today.

This month on Mashable, Ryan Matzer effectively shows the many ways business is getting a much-needed shot in the arm from mobile apps. In his article, 7 Ways Mobile Apps Are Driving Revenue for Businesses, Ryan looks at the clever ways companies are pushing promotions and pulling consumer data:

  1. Geo-Targeted Push Notifications
Push notifications break down barriers between businesses and their consumers. Using geo-targeted push notifications, companies can send region-specific notifications about special offers based on user interest.
  2. Additional Sales Opportunities
Mobile apps on smartphones equals new shopping and engagement opportunities. Interactions can take place anytime, anywhere, whether its during morning commute or sitting in a doctor's office.
  3. Geo-Targeted Advertising
Modern, smartphone-powered targeted advertising can zero in on users by displaying geographic and contextually optimized ads. For example, businesses can display coupons to potential users nearby or help users find the business by advertising directly on a map.
  4. Dynamic Offers
Businesses can use data collected through geotracking and ad campaigns to deliver just-in-time offers. Theaters can track and send a coupon to users who are nearby and looked up information about showtimes but didn’t make a purchase.
  5. Pushing Through the Funnel
Mobile apps can be used to encourage customers to follow through on transactions. Users might “bounce” from a page (leaving without completing the sale) for many reasons, such as not having a credit card handy or finding it too tedious to type in account information. Using a phone’s GPS, transactional apps can detect a user’s location and automatically fill in address data.
  6. Data Gathering
Online businesses easily track consumers' personal online shopping and browsing habits. What engaged users and what turned them off? Where, exactly, in the online store did a user go and what did they do when they got there? Consumer data can be a great asset when used to inform more relevant and meaningful consumer interactions.
  7. Compete Anywhere
By Laser targeting consumers, mobile apps are helping businesses increase revenue with increasing efficiency, building engagement and enhancing the customer experience.
