Make your holiday this Heroes' Day Weekend educational, enjoyable, and, most importantly, more meaningful. After all, National Heroes' Day is supposed to be a day to celebrate our National Heroes and their achievements for the country.

To help you do just that, we’ve pulled a list of activities to try from our Prips page:

  • The Accompong Maroon Tour can be a great way to learn more about the kind of life National Hero Nanny of the Maroons might have led. Tour the historic sites and even meet the descendants of the Maroons. Taste food from recipes that date back hundreds of years.

  • Learn more about National Hero Normal Manley at the Normal Manley museum in Manchester. There will be able to enjoy exhibits of his family life, career in law, involvement in sports and his role as a statesman.

  • The National Gallery of Jamaica: Visit the Historical Galleries and learn a little more about our culture and history, including the histories of the National Heroes, through various artworks. While the Gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays, it opens Tuesdays to Thursday: 10am to 4:30pm, Fridays from 10am to 4pm and Saturdays 10am to 3pm.

  • Finally, if you’re looking for something more relaxing, visit a park. Perhaps the best  park to enjoy in October is National Hero’s Park where you can learn more about these revered and inspirational leaders, and explore their final resting place. The popular Emancipation Park is also a wonderful place to celebrate the freedoms many of our National Heroes fought for.
