We always admired Tina Brown from a distance, watching her remake Vanity Fair and the New Yorker for the new global audience. Then she smartly moved into digital media with The Daily Beast.

The Daily Suss We loved it. The idea of a news aggregator that doesn’t simply lump the bumph that passes for stories these days has great sex appeal. When we chose to do something similar, The Daily Suss was such an obvious name for a Jamaican site that it had no competition.

We soft launched it a few weeks ago, and are actually still tweaking some sections. But we can cautiously say that all reports up to now are good. Environmentalist Diana McCaulay calls The Daily Suss “Inspired!” And IT Consultant Trevor Forrest of 876 Solutions says it is “a bold step” to bring all the information people view as relevant to one place.

The Daily Suss is a portal that points visitors to good online material on Jamaica, in any subject area. We direct readers to anything of quality, as long as it has some attitude, to choose a Tina Brown phrase. We write a brief introduction to give visitors context or to hint how we feel about a particular article.

We have seeded the site with other articles of interest, both from our archived feature service (Old Gems) and from PanNotes, Panmedia’s blog. We also include a Quotes section because we believe people’s actual words are usually the most poignant part of any story. Visitors who have something interest to add to the site can register and send us an introductory paragraph and a link to the original article.

Finally, we cautiously ask that you keep an eye out for the columnists we intend to add. We hope this will bring other opinions to The Daily Suss and to stir some debate.

We hope you enjoy the experience.
