Jamaica uses roughly 37,066 acres for growing ganja. But all that has done up to now is get the island listed in the State Department’s 2014 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report as the largest Caribbean supplier of marijuana to the United States. With so much weed around, and Olint busted, many want to legalize the herb.
1. Huge economic benefits!
The World Bank says Jamaica’s economy suffers from slow growth, high unemployment and high debt. How can ganja help? Well, sales for recreational marijuana were US$34.1 million in August in Colorado. One month! Our high grades should at least fire the economy.
2. No idle land!
Police chases often end with suspects escaping in nearby bushes. Why are these bushes standing idle? We could develop more acreage and put idle lands to use.
3. Lawd, corruption done!
Police have been reported as extorting people caught with large quantities of marijuana. If ganja is legal, that mash up their business.
4. Tourism arrivals skyrocket!
With legalized weed the tourism sector must grow. Amsterdam gets 5.2 million tourists annually, many heading straight to the country’s 200 weed cafes. Jamaica’s tourists would be so irie if they could have a joint with their jerk.
