Much of the news, events, happenings and gossip got their buzz via social media this year. Here are a few local and international items that created online frenzies.
- Gully Bop, the infamous DJ got his start from a viral Facebook video showing his lyrical skills.
- Former beauty queen and now Minister Lisa Hanna shared a bikini photo on Instagram and drove some Jamaicans into hysteria.
- The Digicel affiliate company Loop started big this year, giving OGNR a run for its timeline.
- Domestic issues: Couple drama from on and off again duo Chris Brown and Karrueche to our local celebrities, longtime love now separated Ishawna and Foota Hype who were constantly throwing shade publicly, and Yendi and Chino, the child support document that got leaked online.
- Kim Kardashian ‘broke the internet’ with a naked shot. What else is new?
- Solange Knowles is not one to be messed with. What an elevator kick to brother-in-law Jay-Z.
- Oscar Selfie: this was the year of selfies and the most famous of them all was that taken by Bradley Cooper and posted by Ellen DeGeneres with several A-listers at the Oscars.
- Let’s not forget the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that took the world by storm. Celebrities, pop stars and ordinary folk poured a bucket of ice/ice cold water to support the fight against this Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease.
